The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, has appointed Prof. Eric Appau Asante as the Acting Coordinator for the University’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Courses.
Prof. Asante, an Associate Professor of Educational Innovations and the immediate past Director of the KNUST E-Learning Centre, assumes leadership at a pivotal moment, following the Academic Board’s approval of a University-wide Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence course.
The two-credit hour course is scheduled for rollout in the 2025/2026 academic year and will be mandatory for all undergraduate students.
The Academic Board also endorsed the University’s comprehensive AI Strategy, which seeks to build strong institutional capacity in digital literacy, AI adoption, responsible technology use, and innovation-led teaching and learning.
In his new role, Prof. Asante will oversee the design, implementation, and continuous enhancement of the instructional framework for the Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence course and other AI-related programmes.
His responsibilities include coordinating faculty across Colleges, guiding curriculum development, and supporting AI-based interventions for both staff and students.
With extensive expertise in curriculum development, instructional design, digital transformation, AI integration in pedagogy, and quality assurance in online learning, Prof. Asante is expected to play a central role in strengthening KNUST’s position as a leader in technology-driven higher education.
